Your fridge freezer just buckled and you now face the daunting task of buying a new one?

And choosing one just became a tad more complicated…
Follow our guide to find your perfect fridge freezer in 2014!
You have a few questions to answer before setting off in search of a new fridge freezer and amongst others, what type of fridge freezer and what budget?
Fridge freezer come in different sizes and styles but there are only three main types that you can buy: freestanding ones, integrated ones and American-style ones.
The freestanding fridge freezers are the ones cheapest and most popular because they come in so many types of sizes that it is easy to fit them everywhere.
Regarding the integrated fridge freezers, those are the ones that blend in with the style of your kitchen because they usually are concealed behind cupboard doors.
As for the last type, the American-style fridge freezers, they also are called side-by-side or French-door styles. They are the most expensive of the three categories.
According to the type of fridge freezer you want, they will chill and freeze your food, others will also make ice whist other models will also dispense cool water and balance humidity levels in the fruit and vegetable drawer.
Prices do vary hugely from one brand to the other so having a clear idea of your budget before going is a good idea.
Preferably, choose a fridge freeze with transparent shelves and transparent drawers so that you know at a glance what you stored there and whether it needs to be eaten immediately or not.
Nowadays, every fridge freezer has a unique EU compliant energy label which shows how energetically efficient the model you set your eyes on, is.
Samsung has its hands in every corner of the technology market and kitchen appliances are no exception: the freestanding fridge freezer Samsung RB31FERNBSS is an interesting model to buy.
Costing from £650, it is a superior quality fridge freezer with the “frost-free” feature, always good to have as it avoids you the daunting task of de-icing your freezer!
Its energy rating is A+++, meaning that your energy bill shouldn’t shoot through the roof and its storage space is impeccable.
On a par with the Samsung model about prices, the Miele KDN 12823S-1 costs from £670 and has the particularity to have a larger fridge than a freezer.
Its energy rating is A+ which makes it an economic fridge to own and it possess the same feature of “frost-free” as the Samsung’s model.
The integrated fridge-freezer are a smaller segment of the market of fridge-freezer because they require all those extra-bits that add to the final bill; moreover, you have to ensure that specialists are able to reach your area to fit the fridge freezers properly.
Not every brand produces integrated fridge freezer but there seem to have two segments of this market, with “cheap” intergrated fridge freezers produced by some brands (less than £500) whilst with other brands, they easily cost more than £800.
The BC50F integrated fridge freezer produced by Beko costs only £350, has a capacity of 155 litres for the fridge and 62 litres for the freezer and an energy rating of A+ as well as the frost-free feature.
Another good integrated fridge-freezer is the Siemens KI38VA50GB, costing £732: with its energy rating of A+ and its storage capacities of 63 litres (Freezer) and 222 litres (fridge), it has some space for you to store your food safely.
With its frost-free feature, it is an integrated fridge-freezer worth its price!
Finally, over to our last category of fridge-freezer: the American-style ones.
Many fridge-freezers feature in this category and prices are equally varied as brands produce them in all shapes, colours and style.
The Samsung RH29H9000SR is very pricey but comes with so many options that the price tag seems a bit more justified. Then, you’ll have to decide whether this is the beast you want in your kitchen or not.
Where Samsung is concerned, they always have to throw in new and improved features compared with the competition.
This is exactly what they did with this new fridge in adding “Showcase”, a second door to the fridge that allows quick access to the items you need in the fridge without letting too much air escape from the fridge.
Priced at $2999 on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, this is a fridge we expect to touch our shores in 2015 at the latest.
On the other hand, being sold right now in every shop, across the UK, is the LG GSL545NSYV, another American-style fridge freezer and one that is very sleek in design.
Costing around £1,399, with an energy rating of A+, a fridge capacity of 362 litres and a freezer capacity of 178 litres, this fridge freezer can comfortably store the food of a family of four without flinching.
And the water and ice dispenser is a nice touch, added by LG.
Good luck with your choice!
